Speaker of Parliament Anita Among has hailed Buganda Kingdom Premier (Katikkiro) Charles Peter Mayiga for his “commitment and astute leadership” as he marked 12 years in office on Monday (12 May).
“Your commitment and astute leadership have been instrumental in advancing not only the kingdom’s affairs but also in positively impacting the lives of many across the country,” she told Mayiga in a congratulatory message posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday.
The Speaker congratulated the Katikkiro on “achieving 12 remarkable years of dedicated service to the Kabaka, the kingdom, and Uganda at large”.
She also praised his maturity, which she said has enabled him to bridge the gap between the central government and the kingdom, as well as his patriotism that “knows no boundaries”.
“On behalf of the Parliament of Uganda and myself, I wish you continued success, prosperity, and good health in the years ahead,” she added.
Mayiga was appointed Katikkiro by Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi on 12 May 2013. Immediately after his appointment, he embarked on a kingdom-wide tour to assess the well-being of the people and inspire them to fight poverty.
The tour evolved into a fundraising drive dubbed Ettofaali, which raised about sh9 billion to help the kingdom address some of its most pressing challenges.
