Police in Nyendo, Masaka city, have arrested three suspects — including a school matron and two askaris — in connection with two suspected arson attacks at Kako Secondary School.

Greater Masaka Region police spokesperson Twaha Kasirye said both fires occurred in Matovu Dormitory, which houses 17 Senior Two girls.

The first blaze broke out on April 9, 2025, at around 8:00am while students were in class, destroying mattresses, books, uniforms, and personal belongings.

A second fire erupted in the same dormitory on April 11, 2025, at around 2:00am.

Investigators from the Criminal Investigations Directorate and the Fire Brigade visited the scenes, recorded statements from school staff and students, and collected ash samples for forensic analysis.

The arrested suspects — Denis Aguta, Emmanuel Okecho, and Agnes Naluwu — are assisting police with the ongoing probe.

Investigations under CRB 256/2025 remain active as police work to establish the motive behind the twin attacks.
