Two held over kidnap and robbery in Rukungiri

The Police have arrested two suspects in connection with a kidnap and aggravated robbery that took place along Republic Road in Rukungiri Municipality on January 20, 2025.

Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate said the suspects, who were in a motor vehicle reg no UBH 905Y, robbed 24-year-old Daniel (second name withheld) of sh31.8m.

Maate explained that after thorough investigations, the motor vehicle used by the suspects was impounded and the driver was identified as Isaac Tugeineyo. He was arrested to aid the investigations. According to police, the vehicle had been on the security radar for some time.

Maate said that when the motor vehicle was searched, items of evidential value were recovered; and these included two sharp pangas, a knife, a heavy duty rope of about two metros, a jerrican, a pair of white canvas shoes, two shirts, and two pairs of jeans trousers.

Police also confirmed that the owner of the vehicle has also been identified as Angellous Ainebyona and was in detention.
