UCE | RESULTS | EXPECTED
First Lady and Minister for Education and Sports, Mrs Janet Museveni, is expected to be briefed on the 2022 Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) performance today.
The exercise, which is conducted by the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB), is part of the final events to release the end-of-cycle examinations.
The event, which is expected to be held at State House Nakasero in Kampala, will mark the confirmation of the release date.
Sources familiar with the events surrounding the release of results have said the UCE results are likely to be released tomorrow.
“Yes, the tentative date for the release of UCE is Thursday, this week, February 9. "However, the First Lady will have the final confirmation on the date of release,” the source said.
The source asked to be protected because she is not authorized to speak for UNEB or the ministry.
Total Candidature
A total of 349,455 candidates from 3,703 examination centers, registered to write the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) Examinations last year.
Of the total number of candidates, 175,923 representing 50.3% were male candidates whereas 173,522 representing 49.7% were female candidates.
Statistics shared by UNEB indicate that 114,200 students, representing 32.7% of the total number of candidates, were funded under the Universal Secondary Education (USE) program.
According to statistics, a total of 235,245 representing 77.3% of the total number of candidates who registered for UCE last year, were from the Non-USE schools.
UNEB indicated that only 50 candidates who were inmates at Luzira Upper Prison wrote the UCE examination last year.
In addition, UNEB data indicated that there were 519 of the total candidature were learners with special needs.
Results for defaulters
Just like the Primary Leaving Examinations, the 2022 UCE was unique in such a way that for the first time, UNEB will withhold results for all fee defaulters that were allowed to write examinations.
This will be so because UNEB asked schools to allow defaulters to write their final examinations, and that they will be assisted to recover the fees.
However, the candidates who had fees arrears at the respective schools will not receive their results until they clear the balance.
The fee defaulters, according to UNEB, will not access their results through the Short Message Service (SMS) codes when results are released.
Blocking them from accessing results, UNEB said would compel parents to clear the fees arrears with the respective schools.
