BUKEDI - The Uganda Police Force (UPF) has successfully recruited 770 new constables in the Bukedi South Policing region as a significant step in bolstering its ranks nationwide.

The recruitment drive, which began in the region on April 28, 2025, concluded on May 2, 2025, marking a notable milestone in the ongoing effort to add 10,000 officers nationwide.

This comprehensive recruitment effort yielded 365 new constables in Tororo district, including 134 females.

Another 216 were enrolled in Busia district, of whom 80 are female, while Butaleja district had 189 successful candidates, including 58 females.

"The exercise went on well without major challenges, especially regarding document forgery, which was always a concern in recruitments before," said Senior Superintendent of Police Fred Ahimbisibwe, Regional Police Commander for Bukedi South.

He further encouraged public support, urging citizens to encourage their children to join the force whenever calls come.

"Our process is transparent and orderly. So let us always encourage our children to come to this service that promotes the respect of law and order in our country," Ahimbisibwe added.

The successful completion of the Bukedi South recruitment highlights the police's commitment to strengthening its ranks and improving service delivery.

The increased personnel are anticipated to bolster security efforts, enhance the observance of law and order across the country, and align with the doctrine of community policing.

This is as Uganda Police Force management is now moving to restructure its approach by focusing its policing efforts at the sub-county level.

The Sub-County Policing Model (SCPM) is a key initiative aimed at decentralising policing services to every sub-county, municipal, and town council in Uganda.

The model, according to police, will deploy 18 personnel per sub-county/municipal/town council, comprising an Officer Commanding Station (OC Station), 12 officers for patrols (including General Duty Police, Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), Crime Intelligence, Child and Family Protection Unit and Community Liaison Officers).

The successful recruitment in Bukedi South serves as a significant step toward implementing this expanded model, promising enhanced security and community engagement at the grassroots level.
