Adjumani still wants Moses Ali amid social media criticism

Last week, Ali, 86, asked voters to support his 2026 parliamentary bid, noting that: “I still have the energy to serve.” “I am born to lead,” he added, triggering social media buzz.

ADJUMANI - On social media this week, the news that Gen. Moses Ali will seek another parliamentary term in 2026 broke the internet.

Some keyboard warriors directly questioned why the four-star general wants to return to Parliament.

However, in his backyard, Adjumani West, voters said the second deputy prime minister and deputy leader of government business in Parliament, is their man of all seasons.

Some MPs from West Nile sub-region have also read the riot act to social media commentators, urging them to back-off from the man they describe as the “granary” of West Nile.

“I don’t know what the doctors have advised, and how it will impact on his candidature.

However, he has made a useful contribution. He is like a granary in our sub-region and nobody wants to burn down a granary,” Maracha County MP Denis Lee Oguzu, said.

Bukimbiri County MP, Eddie Kwizera Wa-guhungu, said: “If an individual feels that he is ready to contest, you can’t stop him. The condition of age that citizens are talking about is not even a legal requirement for anyone to stand.”

Last week, Ali, 86, asked voters to support his 2026 parliamentary bid, noting that: “I still have the energy to serve.” “I am born to lead,” he added, triggering social media buzz.

Last year, Ali also lashed out at his critics, noting that although many abuse him, it is his voters who have the final say about his political career.

“Elections are held every five years in Uganda. I will contest again and if you are not happy, it is up to you,” he said.

Ali, who has been in Government since President Idi Amin’s regime, also added that he has not stopped any person from contesting against him for the Adjumani West seat.
“Anyone is allowed to contest against me,” he said.
