Robert Kanusu, the Deputy Resident City Commissioner for Mbarara City South Division, has urged Democratic Party (DP) delegates gathered at Asamar Hotel to adhere to security guidelines and prevent any clashes.
Security personnel, including Police, UPDF, and plainclothed officers, were deployed at the venue to maintain law and order. Kanusu stated that the security forces would ensure safety during the delegates' conference.

Early Friday (May 30), Mbarara City was painted green with DP flags and posters of candidates contesting for various seats, especially in Ruti town, where the conference is being held.
Hundreds have assembled for the party’s 12th national delegates conference and election of party leaders.
Incumbent president Norbert Mao is battling it out with Dr. Michael Bayiga Lulume, the Member of Parliament for Buikwe county, Richard Sebamala, the Bukoto Central MP and Elia Alitia, the Party’s vice president for West Nile, to retain his contested seat.

Gerald Siranda Blacks, the party’s secretary general, is also facing off with Ismail Kirya and Richard Lumu.
According to Herbert Rutagwera, the Party’s organising secretary, the delayed registration and verification by the party’s organising team started at 3:00 pm.
Over 100 delegates were expected to take part in electing their national party leaders.
