Jinja's Lufafa wins city NRM chairperson seat

Lufafa won with 54 votes, Kitakule got 31 votes well as Nkuutu got 11 votes. Ismail Kiiza Kinyiri and Ronald Isiko pulled out of the race.

JINJA - Edwin Lufafa has won the Jinja city NRM chairperson seat beating Faruwa Kitakule and Haji Mohammed Nkuutu. 

Lufafa, who is the Jinja Northern Division MP hopeful, beat Faruwa Kitakule, who had the support of former Jinja West MP Moses Grace Balyeku and Jinja Sourthern East Constituency legislator Nathan Igeme Nabeta. 

Before voting, all candidates engaged in a meeting with Jinja Resident City Commissioner Richard Gulume to discuss which candidate was to be supported for NRM chairperson and another for the vice-chairperson post, since the contention was between Kitakule and Lufafa. 

The meeting was in vain as all candidates agreed to conduct the elections with their supporters lining up behind them. 

Lufafa won with 54 votes, Kitakule got 31 votes well as Nkuutu got 11 votes. 
Ismail Kiiza Kinyiri and Ronald Isiko pulled out of the race. 

The vice-chairperson post was won by Daniel Musinguzi with 52 votes, beating Rose Kalikwani, who got 45 votes and Joseph Balikuddembe, who got two. 

Mohammed Ntuuyo beat Daudi Musenze to the post of secretary after securing 70 votes. Musenze got 26. 

Earlier on various security personnel from different security agencies were deployed to beef up security at the polling venue at Civil Service College of Uganda in Ninja City. 
Screening exercises for eligibility of voters started a bit late at 11:30am. 

Edwin Lufafa was lifted high in air by his supporters after being announced the winner. 

During the voting for other posts like publicity secretary, violence erupted as Richard Mbaziira and Kitakule nearly picked up a fight.
