Nalukoola sworn in as new Kawempe North MP

Nalukoola took the oath of office two days after his byelection victory was gazetted by the national Electoral Commission.

Elias Luyimbazi Nalukoola of the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) was Wednesday (March 26) sworn in as the new MP of Kawempe North.

The swearing in ceremony took place inside the Speaker's Chambers at Parliament in Kampala in the presence of Speaker Anita Among. 

Also present were NUP officials, including party spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi, who is also the Leader of Opposition in Parliament.

Nalukoola took the oath of office two days after his byelection victory was gazetted by the national Electoral Commission.

He replaces the late Muhammad Ssegirinya, who died in January this year before completing his term as MP.

That means Nalukoola will finish off the remaining portion of the term ahead of next year's general elections.

The NUP flagbearer beat nine other contestants in the March 13 by-election.

They included:

▪️ Sadat Mukiibi aka Khalifah Aganaga (FDC)

▪️ Henry Kasacca Mubiru (DP)

▪️ Ismail Musiitwa (PPP)

▪️ Muhammed Lusswa Luwemba (independent)

▪️ Hanifah Karadi Murewa (independent)

▪️ Muhamood Mutazindwa (independent)

▪️ Moses Nsereko (independent)

▪️ Stanley Edward Maitum Engena (independent)
