Uganda's ruling National Resistance Movement party (NRM) plans to amend the Local Government Act so that all NRM leaders who are not village or district chairpersons become ex-officials.
"We are planning to amend the local government act so that we can have all NRM Chairpersons from the village level to the district level become ex-officials", the party Secretary General, Richard Todwong has revealed.
He made the announcement on Sunday, June 01, while meeting new district, city and municipality chairpersons.
A release from the party Secretariat states that the three-day themed on strengthening leadership and accountability for enhanced service delivery was held at Hotel Africana Kampala.

At the same meeting, NRM Vice Chairman Haji Moses Kigongo cautioned party members against running as independents after losing in the forthcoming party primaries.
"The party will not accept this kind of mess," he warned.
Kigongo also appealed to the leaders not to confuse the party and other members who needed to join the party.
“Many people may want to come and join the movement. Do not chase them away but rather welcome them. NRM is a mass party that can accommodate everyone,” Kigongo said.
Kigongo also urged the leaders always to be flexible adding that if there is a need to change tactics to achieve a certain goal, they (leaders) should do that.
The party Chief Whip, Hubson Obua and Vice Chairman in charge of the Western Region and the ICT Minister, Chris Baryomunsi also addressed the gathering.
