Terego Woman Member of Parliament, who is accused of falsifying her birth documents, is expected to appear before court on June 17, 2025, New Vision Online has learnt.
Rose Obiga was sued on April 23, 2025, at Buganda Road Magistrate’s court by a concerned resident and voter in Terego district, Eric Alema.
Alema, in a miscellaneous case number KLA-00-CR-0008-2025 filed at Magistrate’s Court, Buganda Road in Kampala, instituted criminal proceedings against the woman MP Rose Obiga for allegedly falsifying her birth records.
Alema claims that Obiga’s birth records indicate that she was born on September 9, 1979, after her immediate follower, Obiga Patrick, who was born on May 20, 1977.
Following the court proceedings, the court has fixed June 17 for hearing the application, warning that failure to appear by the respondent or any person authorised by law to act on her behalf will mean the hearing will be conducted in her absence.
Alema, who said he acted on behalf of the electorate in Terego and as a responsible citizen to demand accountability and knowledge of the truth from the elected leaders, wants her to be penalised for charges of forgery and uttering false documents, which offences, if convicted both attract a minimum punishment of seven years imprisonment each.
Earlier, when contacted, Obiga admitted knowledge of the suit but claimed she had not officially received the court summons but would file her defence once she received them.
