KATAKWI - Vice President, Rtd Maj. Jessica Alupo has been elected the Chairperson National Resistance Movement (NRM) Veterans League for Oigo-Imomwa village in Ongongoja sub-county in Katakwi district.

Alupo was declared by the NRM Village Election officer, Moses Otim, during the election of NRM party village structures elections.

Alupo won with a landslide after garnering 307 votes against Charles Alongu, who got 05 votes.

Before the elections by lining, Alongu, a former arrow boy, campaigned that he wanted to follow the issues of iron sheets for arrow boys who fought and defeated LRA in Teso sub-region.

But Alupo told voters that  Government had procured consignments of iron sheets for veterans and arrow boys.

After he congratulated the VP, Alongu said the elections were free and fair.

Alupo said she will use Alongu as a person who will link the community with her as she follows issues with the Government.

In the election of the veterans league committee, the only position contested for was the chairperson, but the rest went unopposed.

Alupo wondered why the number of votes of about 76 were missing in the yellow book, and yet it has been about 8 or 9 were found missing.

For this reason, she asked the people to register in the yellow book whenever that time comes so that they don't miss in elections.

"Don't you think I will miss so many votes if you don't register in the yellow book, if issues come from the secretariat, that no one should vote if the name is missing?" she asked.

Alupo cautioned politicians against the commercialisation of politics and called on the people to embrace livelihood programs.

Omach was grateful that the elections were one of the best free and fair elections in the 72,000 villages in the country.

The people who were missing were captured in the exercise book, and it was said they would be forwarded to the EC for inclusion in the NRM register.

Through the guidance of the EC  Vice Chairperson, NRM Fred Omach, the missing people were also allowed to vote.

Alupo stayed and kept guiding the process of elections until the end.

Earlier in the day, Alupo guided the village registrar to read all the names of the voters to ascertain their presence and to allow the process of elections to go slowly for transparency.

Over 312 voters were registered for the NRM structures at the village level.
