East African T20 Tri-Nation Tournament Uganda 185/9 Rwanda 100 (Uganda win by 85 runs)
Joseph Baguma ripped through Rwanda’s attack, claiming 4/14 in four overs as Uganda got their East African T20 Tri-Nation Tournament bid off to a winning start on Wednesday at the Gahanga International Cricket Stadium in Rwanda.
Baguma was the unquestionable star with the ball just as team-mate Ronald Lutaaya was the man with the bat, smashing 70 off 40 balls for his finest international knock.
Lutaaya and Simon Ssesazi (34) enjoyed a 73-run second-wicket stand that steadied the ship for Uganda after Roger Mukasa’s early dismissal. Mukasa, who was nought-for-two, is still searching for a notable performance following his return to the Cricket Cranes set up in the middle of this year.
Veteran Frank Nsubuga enjoyed a better show with the bat than his younger brother and, for that matter, with the ball. Nsubuga was an expensive 1/23 in three overs but he also finished with Uganda’s third-highest runs total with 31. Skipper Brian Masaba scored 18 off 15.
Henry Ssenyondo took 3/20 for Uganda, who battle Rwanda again on Thursday.
