Uganda’s National women’s football coach, Sheryl Botes, has picked a squad of 20 players to compete in the 2025 CECAFA Women’s Championship in Tanzania.
Uganda is set to defend the title they won in 2022.
The tournament will take place from June 12 to 21 at the Azam Complex in Chamazi, Dar es Salaam, featuring teams from Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi, South Sudan, and Kenya, playing in a round-robin format.
Most of the selected players come from the Uganda Women’s Super League, with only one foreign player, Margaret Kunihira, who plays in Tanzania for Caessia Queens.
The team will start training on Monday, June 9, after entering camp on Sunday, June 8, at FUFA Hotel in Kisaasi. They will depart to Tanzania on Tuesday, June 10.
Uganda last lifted the CECAFA trophy in 2022, beating Burundi 3-1 in the final, with goals from Sandra Nabweteme (2) and Fazila Ikwaput.
This tournament is part of a busy schedule, including the CAF Women’s Champions League Zonal Qualifiers and the AFCON U-17 Qualifiers.
