Crested Cranes arrive in Kigali for double-header with Rwanda

Crested Cranes on Saturday arrived in Kigali ahead of Wednesday’s 2024 Paris Women’s Olympic qualifier against Rwanda.

Ahead of departure, coach Ayub Khalifa Kiyingi named a final squad of 24 players for the double-header, with the first leg being played at Pele Stadium in Kigali.

Among the notable players to miss out is Denmark-based midfielder Phiona Nabbumba due to injury.

Kampala Queens’ Zainah Nandede and UCU’s Asiat Nalugwa have all not made the cut.

Joan Nabirye who plays FK Minsk in Belarus will join the team in Kigali.

UCU defender Bridget Nabisaalu was a late addition to the team.

Uganda came from a goal down to beat Tanzania 3-1 on Friday, in a friendly played at the MTN-Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.

Goalkeepers: Ruth Aturo, Daisy Nakaziro, Daphine Nyayenga.

Defenders: Samalie Nakacwa, Sumaya Komuntale, Shadia Nankya, Asia Nakibuuka, Aisha Nantongo, Bridget Nabisaalu, Jolly Kobusinge.

Midfielders: Joan Nabirye, Shamirah Nalugya, Shakirah Nyinagahirwa, Hadijah Nandago, Hasifah Nassuna, Rhoda Nanziri.

Forwards: Fauzia Najjemba, Sandra Nabweteme, Catherine Nagadya, Resty Nanziri, Fazila Ikwaput, Joan Ainembabazi, Anitah Namata, Margret Kunihira.
