Deo Kasozi, the president of Kitara Football Club, has stepped down from his position.

The announcement was made on Monday evening, June 9, during a press conference held at the club’s main office in Hoima City.

Kasozi, who took over in July 2022, said his three-year term had come to an end, and he was stepping down in line with the club’s constitution, which limits a president’s term to three years.

“I will be leaving my position with immediate effect and would like to thank all the stakeholders who have enabled me to perform my role beyond expectations,” Kasozi said.

“The main reason I am stepping down is well stated in the club constitution."

"The president serves for three years, and I had agreed to that from the beginning. I have fulfilled that term and feel it is the right time to move on,” he added.

Kasozi also revealed that he plans to focus on a personal football project, which he hopes to launch between 2027 and 2028.

His time as president saw major achievements for Kitara FC. The club won the 2023/2024 Uganda Cup, which earned them a place in the CAF Confederation Cup. That victory cemented his legacy at the club.

Before that, Kitara secured promotion to the Uganda Premier League by winning the FUFA Big League title in the 2022/2023 season.

Kasozi also made key changes in the technical bench, replacing Brian Ssenyondo with Wasswa Bbosa, who guided the team to a seventh-place finish in the league with 44 points.

Following his departure, Gilbert Nyaika has taken over as interim president of Kitara FC.

Nyaika is a police officer, currently serving as the Community Liaison Officer (CLO) at Katwe Police Station.

He joined the Uganda Police Force in 2015 and is also active in sports governance.

He serves on the boards of the Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA) and the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA), where he sits on the ethics and investigations committee.
