Fresh from the East Africa Netball Club Championships where they finished second, Prisons head coach Ruth Meeme emphasized that their performance was a solid start and she remains optimistic for better results.
"I wanted to win this title, but luck was not on our side. We did everything we could to emerge victorious, but in the end, NIC won. We are now revising our tactics and will come back better and stronger," Meeme stated.
At the 2024 East Africa Netball Championships, Prisons lost to their longtime rivals, NIC, by a narrow margin of 38-39, securing the second position. In the tournament played in a round-robin tournament, Prisons won seven out of eight matches, finishing with 14 points.
The 2025 East Africa Netball Championships will be hosted by Zanzibar. Currently, NIC holds the most East Africa titles with 22, while Prisons has three.
With the East Africa Netball Club Championships concluded, clubs are now waiting for the national netball league to commence. The league was put on hold last year following the withdrawal of the Uganda Netball Federation (UNF) certificate in November.
The normalisation committee, chaired by Moses Mwase, was tasked with amending the constitution and organizing elections. Mwase has confirmed that the handover to the new executive will occur in June, raising hopes that the league will soon resume.
