Greenland Academy dominates schools' swimming

Greenhill Academy (Kibuli and Buwate campuses) held the inaugural Kampala Parents Gala at their school pool at Lugogo on Saturday, taking first and second places in schools' swimming.

According to the boys and girls results, Kibuli Campus won the event after collecting 1,972 points, beating Buwaate's counterparts by 49.5 points.

The Kibuli campus won in the boys with 913 points as Buwaate came second with 778 while the strongest competitor, Hill Preparatory finished third with 703 points.

Hill Preparatory of Naguru surpassed the two, emerging on top with 912 points as the Buwaate campus finished second with 872.5 while Kibuli finished third with 791 points.

The principal of Kampala Parents P. S, Daphine Kato hailed the 24 schools that participated and advised that it’s always a wise decision for schools to involve learners in sports and other activities.

“We have seen that the best swimmers are also very good in class. Discipline in swimming also translates to academic results on the ground,” noted Principal Kato.

She thanked Vision Group CEO, Don Wanyama for sponsoring the event.

The other sponsors are MTN MoMo, Ranchers Finest, the Ministry of Health, Kampala Parents, the Uganda Swimming Federation and the Uganda Securities Exchange.

Wanyama who is also a parent at Kampala Parents was the chief guest and also donated to Kampala Parents School books worth sh2.5m.

He congratulated all the participants and noted that the tournament will grow bigger and better soon.

“We are here because we are publishers of textbooks and we want schools and parents to know that we have some of the best content in terms of books, chairs and other materials. I encourage you especially on the new curriculum that we have some of the best researched content. Look for our books in bookshops,” noted Wanyama as he handed over books worth sh2.5m to Kampala Parents P.S.

The overall winning schools in each age category and the individual winners in each age category received trophies.
