A record number of 5,000 turned up at Teryet High Altitude Training Centre for the children’s national run on Saturday, October 2, 2021.
The Global Sports Communication management agency, who organised the run, admitted that they got “far beyond the expected number of participants.”
“We got just over 5,000 aspiring future stars. This is the highest number of athletes we have hosted in history,” Joshua Kibet, the agency camp manager said.

Hailing from different districts and regions, the child athletes thronged Teryet training centre aboard trucks.
Some who could not afford to hire cars walked from their respective districts to Kapchorwa so as to participate.

“At least 1,000 children is what we expected to receive and screen but we luckily got 5,000,” Andrianus Ruiter, Global Sports Communication head coach told Vision Sport, in an interview.
The purpose of the event was to help the management agencies, academies and clubs identify future runners and enrol them in professional talent development. In each category, the best 15 were considered for selection.
