Uganda’s long-distance running sensation, Jacob Kiplimo, has further cemented his dominance in the 15km road race by setting a stunning new world record of 40:42 minutes.
This record-breaking performance occurred during the Seven Hills Race in Nijmegen, Netherlands, on Sunday, marking a triumphant end to an eventful year for the 24-year-old athlete.
Kiplimo’s victory not only secured back-to-back titles at the event but also shattered his previous course record of 41:05, set in 2023. In doing so, he erased Joshua Cheptegei’s 2018 world record, also achieved on the same course, by a margin of 23 seconds. This feat underscores Kiplimo’s unmatched mastery in road racing.
This record comes as a resounding comeback for Kiplimo, who missed a medal at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. Ending his season with a world record solidifies his status as one of the brightest stars in athletics.
Renowned coach Benjamin Njia praised Kiplimo’s achievement, emphasizing the athlete’s growing prowess in road racing. “It is a pleasure that we have a talent like Jacob, and the future is bright,” Njia remarked. “He is maturing and mastering the road with every race.”
Kiplimo now looks forward to a well-deserved break before returning to defend his national and world cross-country titles next year. With his unrelenting drive and extraordinary talent, the world eagerly anticipates his next milestones.
