Netball Uganda Normalisation Committee has released a list of 13 nominated candidates for the upcoming elective assembly set for Saturday.
Jocelyn Ucanda is set to become the president of the federation, as the NIC Netball club manager is unopposed. In fact, all 13 executive positions are unopposed, following the withdrawal of one of the front runners for president, Flavia Byekwaso.
The release of the nominated candidates was delayed by a suit filed by former UNF executive member Sarah Babirye Kityo. “I do not think he was aware that World Netball has extended our mandate and he also indicated that our instructions were to do normalisation of the Uganda Netball Federation and therefore the road map of putting in place a body called Netball Uganda for which we have done the constitution which was approved on September 21 and the forthcoming elections due on October 26 are illegal,” explained NC chair Moses Mwase.
The Committee was able to prove that Mudhasi, as a member of the dismissed executive, did not have standing and brought the suit in bad faith. The court ruled he didn’t have the legal standing, and they proved they had delegates coming from 56 districts and 26 Super League Clubs and Special Interest Groups.
