Peace Kabasweka carded 144 gross over two rounds to win the second edition of the Tooro Ladies Open played at Tooro Club on Saturday.

The top-ranked lady golfer beat defending champion Melon Kyomugisha by 14 strokes in the ladies' silver category, adding another accolade to her rich trophy cabinet, which includes victories from the Entebbe, Mbale, and Lira opens this year.

Playing off a handicap of 2, she opened with a level-par 70 before wrapping up the championship on the nine-hole course with a four-over 74. She attributed her win to her driving accuracy, putting, and short game, which she said was at 90 percent.

She produced two birdies on holes 3 and 7, and praised the perfect conditions of the course and weather.

“I thank God for the blessing of a home win. It confirms the statement of leading by example. I'm pretty excited about it. My strategy was playing level par on day one and it happened,” Kabasweka said.

“I had a perfect caddy who understood my game plan very well, and we kept the focus. The win has earned me more points on the local ranking and a future reference in the club’s history,” she stated.

The other ladies who managed podium finishes in the silver category included Kyomugisha (158), Martha Babirye (160), and Judith Komugisha (164), while Janet Kabayonga, Lucia Tibahwinura, and Joyce Kisembo produced the best net scores. Juanita Karamagi (142 nett), Annette Bamanya (157), and Caroline Amulen (159) top-scored in the bronze category, while Joan Kyatuka (151) and Edrae Kagombe (159) were the best senior ladies.

The two-day event was sponsored and supported by Vivo Energy, ULGU, UGU, Home Bliss Hotel, Ekspresso, Whitecap Crispy, Bugiri Sugar, Pepsi, Katogo-Entebbe, Team Kabalaza, Pinnacle Security, Gen Jim Muhwezi, and Hon Kateshumbwa Dickson, among others.
