Kampala gears up for thrilling Silverfin Pentathlon weekend

Kampala is set for a splash of excitement this weekend as over 600 young swimmers converge at the Kampala International School of Uganda (KISU) for the 9th edition of the Silverfin Pentathlon.

This much-anticipated event, a staple on Uganda’s swimming calendar, carries special significance this year as it also marks the 10th anniversary of the prestigious Silverfin Academy.

Speaking at the launch in Naguru on Thursday morning, Silverfin Pentathlon Chairperson Laura Walusimbi expressed her enthusiasm for the milestone occasion.

"We are thrilled to host the 9th edition of the tournament as we celebrate ten years of Silverfin Academy," she said proudly. "But beyond the celebration, our mission is to nurture and develop the immense potential of our young swimmers from an early age."

The two-day competition will put participants to the test across five core swimming disciplines: breaststroke, butterfly, freestyle, backstroke, and the demanding Individual Medley—which requires mastery of all four strokes.

"We want these athletes to grow up with a strong foundation in all competitive strokes," Walusimbi added. "That’s why we’re committed to hosting this pentathlon every year."

Set to take place on Saturday and Sunday, the schedule is carefully planned to accommodate the large number of entrants while ensuring an efficient and timely event.

The success of this year’s Silverfin Pentathlon is supported by key sponsors, including MultiChoice, Samz, HRP Solutions, School Pay, and Hema Water.
