Henry Kasujja, son of Kasim 'The Dream' Ouma, is confident of following in his father's footsteps to win a world boxing title for Uganda.
Kasujja, also known as 'Stopper,' expressed this confidence moments after overcoming Tanzania's tricky Issa Maneva at Club Obligato in Kampala during an event dubbed the Blood Warriors.
"I'm left with nothing to prove against opponents at home and on the continent. My dream is to win a world boxing title just like my father Ouma. And if I'm to fulfill this dream, this is the right time to face the big dogs in Europe, America, and the rest of the world," Kasujja noted. He added, "I commend my opponent Maneva for putting up a good show, but had it not been for an injury I picked up in the fourth round, I was going to knock him out."
Judges scored the fight 98-92, 97-93, and 97-93 in Kasujja's favor.
Against Maneva, Kasujja defeated his fifth career Tanzanian opponent and sixth on the continent. Other Tanzanians who have felt his wrath include former African middleweight champion Salehe Mkalekwa, Cosmas Cheka, Adam Dacha, and Benjamin Mchunguzi, as well as DR Congo's Reagan Lossa Pacho.
With his ring record now standing at 11-10-1, with his only loss coming at the hands of Olympian Shadir Musa, Kasujja's dream of following in the footsteps of his idol and father, Ouma, may be a long journey, but it is still alive.
The event featured a combination of combat sports disciplines, including boxing, kickboxing, and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).
While Kasujja, featherweight Joshua Tusingwire 'Kalalankoma,' and lightweight Ivan 'The Ring Emperor' Kambagire excelled in boxing, it was a nightmare for Ugandans in MMA. India's Nazareth Nalthazuala unanimously defeated Uganda Police's Farouk Ogwal in the main card, and Tanzania's Ali Osama thumped Uganda's Samson Sserujongi by submission in the first round.
Event organizer and former World Kickboxing Federation (WKF) middleweight champion Alex Mastiko assured fans of his commitment to developing combat sports.
