Kawempe Moslem Ladies FC have intensified training in preparation to represent the country in this year’s CAF Women’s Champions League- CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers that will take place between August 18 and September 4, 2024 in Addis Ababa Ethiopia.

The training started right away when they learnt about their opponents last week after a CAF draw in Cairo, Egypt that placed Kawempe Moslem Ladies FC in Group B alongside Simba Queens FC (Tanzania), PVP Buyenzi (Burundi) and FAD FC (Djibouti).

According to Kawempe Moslem Ladies FC head coach Ayub Khalifa, they have scheduled several friendlies locally ahead of the qualifiers.

“We were supposed to play Rwanda’s Rayon Sport WFC but they disappointed us at the last hour that the pitch where they were supposed to host us got some abrupt engagements and it will be busy, so that friendly has been cancelled,” Khalifa stated.

“We won’t give up. We have intensified the training. We hope to play with some schools going to FEASSSA Games like Rennes and so many others. If we get enough preparation, CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers won’t be a problem.”

According to the fixtures, Kawempe Moslem Ladies FC will play first against PVP Buyenzi on August 18, before taking on Simba Queens FC (August 21st) and finally FAD FC.

Other groups in this year’s CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers include; Group A which entails; Commercial Bank of Ethiopia WFC, Yei Joint Stars WFC (South Sudan), Police Bullets WFC (Kenya), Warriors Queens FC (Zanzibar) and Rwanda’s Rayon Sport WFC.

Kawempe Moslem Ladies FC will be Uganda’s fourth women's team to play these qualifiers since the inaugural season of 2021.

Lady Doves FC of Masindi was the first in Kenya (2021), She Corporate FC took part in the subsequent season in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania (2022) and recently Kampala Queens FC represented Uganda in Njeru (2023).
