The Korean Embassy in Uganda is looking to revamp taekwondo so that Uganda can win medals in international competitions.
This was revealed by the second secretary to the Korean Embassy in Kampala, Seunghee Yi at a one-day workshop at the CSCA Gym in Kisugu in Kampala as he opened the first Poomsae, a form of taekwondo discipline that imparts basics of the sport.
He said there is a lack of clear information on taekwondo-related systems including raising from one belt to another, and justification of judges, among others.
“With support from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in Korea, the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation (KSPF), and the Taekwondo Promotion Foundation (TPF), the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, has held a workshop for taekwondo leaders in Uganda to share the latest information in trends in taekwondo training methods to improve the quality of the game in Uganda,” noted Yi.
The national coach from Korea, Master Kim Gwangjoo took the 65 participants through four of the ten basic skills of Poomsae.
After the Ambassador's Cup competition, the embassy will also stage KPOP demonstrations at Makerere University on Saturday.
The event will be graced by the Korean Ambassador to Uganda and the winners will walk away with cash prizes to a tune of sh3m.
Uganda Taekwondo Federation (UTF) secretary, Judith Aujo hailed the Korean Embassy for the Poomsae innovation in Uganda.
