The Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Associations (USSSA) Ankole zone Ball games II climaxed on Sunday at the hosting Katatumba Academy grounds in Mbarara City as the four-day completion that started Thursday recorded a pair of surprise winners.
Ishaka Victory won the U16 boys football title
Among the surprises was Maryhill High School which reached the finals for the first time and won the netball title after beating fellow debutantes Boni Consilii Vocational Girls School 32-26.
St. Augustine celebrate with the volleyball trophy
The netball title had for years been won by Sentah College, with Welden School and Aisha Girls also having won it once, but the trio have done away with the sport and did not take part in this year’s edition.
Boni Consilii won the U16 titles
It was yet another surprise package in St Augustine Minor Seminary from Ntungamo, an O’level institution that beat fancied and former FEASSSA representatives Buremba SS 3-1 to lift the boys’ volleyball title on their very first time of participation, with attacker Kennedy Opio winning the MVP accolade.

The girls’ volleyball accolade went to St Elizabeth, the 2019 USSSA ball games II bronze winners in the championship held in Lira, and this was their second time in raw, winning the zonal trophy.

Ntare School and Maryhill won the boys’ and girls’ handball titles following a 23-16 and 10-6 win over Mbarara High and Bweranyangi Girls respectively.
Ishaka Vocational SS will join the rest of the representatives of the zone at the national USSSA championships slated for Lira between 13-20 as Ankole U16 champions, following a 2-1 win over Unique SS in the boys final, while Boni Consilii that came top in the girls' round-robin format, will also be joined by Kibingo Girls for the games in Lira.

According to the USSSA slots allocation, Ankole will be represented by 8 volleyball teams, 4 netball, and 8 handball teams.
