Former national motocross team captain Maxime van Pee has said that he will return stronger in the next event after finishing behind Fortune Sentamu in the second round of the National Motocross Championship.
Maxime who competed with Sentamu in the combined race for the MX2 and MX1 classes spoke to Vision Sport after the race in Kalisizo on Sunday.
"I must admit, I am not fit, because I have been not training, but what I see, Fortune is faster," Maxime said.
"We now have a strong team because many riders have improved so much," he added citing Gift Sebuguzi, (85cc), Waleed Omar, Milton Akaki, Jeremaih Mawanda (MX125), Jonathan Katende (65cc), and Jude Musede(50cc) who left Kalisizo residents in Kyotera district yearning for more.
Eighty riders competed
Unfortunately, the race will not return to Kyotera soon as the third round will be held in Busiika on Easter weekend.
Fresh from South Africa where he finished seventh, Sentamu proved to be untouchable and that could explain why fans fell in love with him.
His speed jumps and whips excited fans.
Sentamu beat stiff opposition in former national team captain Maxime Van pee who was too good at the start, Wazir Omar, and Kenya’s Masalule Kitui.
Musede won the 50cc, Katende(65cc), Sebuguzi(85cc) Waleed (MX125cc), Wazir (MX2), Maxime (MX1) Christian Millet (vets class), while a member of parliament for Lira Municipality Jimmy Akena is unchallenged in the masters class.
Challenging track
Situated 145km from Kampala and on sloping terrain with narrow bends/ corners, the Kalisizo track proved more challenging to racers than ever before.
The riders did not get ample time for practice because of its distance from Kampala and that explains why there were more crashes and injuries than what was in the first round at Garuga.
Jeremiah Mawanda was taken on the stretcher after crashing during a stiff competitive second heat of the MX125cc class, the same was Sharifah Kateete and Rose Deedan
This made the doctor’s day busy as racers from time to time needed medical attention.
Team Orland trainer and chief mechanic Hassan Wasswa who constantly redesigns the Busiika track commended the Kalisizo track but called for adjustments.
“It is a narrow but good challenging track for racers. However, they just need to improve on a few areas including widening the bends/ corners to allow faster riders to overtake in corners,” he said.
