Mbale Heroes 1 SC Villa 0
Mbale Heroes secured their first victory in the Uganda Premier League this season by defeating defending champions SC Villa 1-0 at the Mbale Municipal Stadium.
After losing their opening match to Express FC, Mbale Heroes bounced back, with substitute Cosia Waiswa netting a decisive free kick in the 85th minute. SC Villa had a chance to equalize, but Peter Onzima's opportunity went to waste.
The win moved Mbale Heroes to eighth place with three points, the same as SC Villa, who are sixth. NEC currently leads the standings with six points, while KCCA is second with four points. Vipers, URA, and Express each have three points, with BUL sitting in 11th place with two points.
Mbale Coach Richard Malinga praised the performance of his players.
"It was a good performance and we want to build on this in the next games. We are also going to rectify some mistakes," noted Malinga.
However, Villa coach Morley Bwekyaso believes they didn't handle the game well.
"We had chances we didn't utilize but we shall improve in the next games," noted Byekwaso.
