Mbarara gears up for Rukaari Lake Mburo Autocross 2024

Motor rally enthusiasts in Mbarara are eagerly awaiting the chance to watch their favorite drivers and riders at this year’s edition of the Federation of Motor Clubs in Uganda (FMU) Autocross, set for this Saturday at Mwesigwa Resort Kibega in Kiruhura district.

Dubbed the Rukaari Lake Mburo Autocross 2024, the competition has already attracted 17 drivers, including local favourites Didas Matsiko, Christopher Kateera, and Yasin Mukasa, alongside the Bahizi brothers, Denis and Sean, and one female driver, Doreen Asiimwe.

The one-day event, primarily a competition for rally cadets vying to qualify for the Clubman Rally Championship (CRC), also attracts elite drivers, who were expected to register by Wednesday evening.

Last year, elite driver Ronald Ssebuguzi dominated the competition, posting a total time of 9:17.50 minutes to beat the other 17 drivers at the same venue. Jonas Kansiime came second with a time of 9:25.40 minutes, while Musa Ssegaabwe secured third place with a time of 9:34.70.

In the junior class of the enduro, Miguel Katende emerged victorious after beating five other riders in 15 laps, with Jerome Mubiru coming second and Jonathan Katende finishing third.

In the seniors category, where two females, Sharifa Kateete and Shamilah Kateete, participated, Scott Nicholson won the 10-lap challenge, with Yassin Ssemakula coming second and Sharifah Kateete finishing third.

According to the organizers, the routes and section designs remain unchanged at the Mwesigwa Resort venue.
