It could have been either the numerical advantage or the determination to avenge the many losses they have suffered at the hands of their perennial tormentors, but the fact is, MUSTangs beat Mbarara Titans 17-13 in the Western Region Rugby League.
What remains on record is that it was the Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) rugby club’s first win over Mbarara Titans as the regional league’s first round of three climaxed.
The Titans who are yet to win a game in the three outings of the new season, arrived at MUST grounds Kihumuro with only 12 men and their numerical disadvantage worked against them.
The MUSTangs rode on Emmanuel Ochom’s early try with Meshack Ebong perfecting a conversion for a 7-0 lead before Ryan Kalihira and Jedidiah Allio added a try each and even when the Titans replied through Justus Tumwakire’s try and Marvin Agaba’s conversion and two penalties, it was already too late.

“We are delighted with the win no matter what and we are happy that we have beaten them which we hope gives us a good beginning for more better results this season,” said Arnold Mwaka, the MUSTangs blindside flanker.
MUSTangs win puts them in 3rd place with 4 points, while Mbarara Titans keep miserably rooted at the bottom with just a single point, which is incidentally a bonus point acquired in 3 games and with a 34 points difference.
Going into a two-week break, the Ankole Conference table is topped by Buddu which has won 3 matches, while Kigezi Silverbacks come second on 10 points with MUSTangs following.
Meanwhile, Tooro Lions are riding high in the Tooro Conference, having registered two consecutive wins to top the table with 8 points, followed by KIU Crows on 4 points from two games and Tyrants in 3rd position on two points while UTC Bushenyi has pulled out.
