Germany-based Ugandan boxer Muzamir ‘The Real King Kong’ Kakande delivered one of the best performances of his career, ferociously knocking out Great Britain’s rising prospect Dan Toward in a thrilling super welterweight bout.

The fight took place at a packed Brighton Sussex Centre Arena in London, on a night that also saw Harlem Eubank, cousin of former WBA middleweight champion Chris Eubank Jr., claim the IBF Intercontinental welterweight title.

Kakande, who won Uganda’s last boxing gold medal at a competitive championship in 2017, proved too quick, slick, and powerful for Toward. By the fifth round of the eight-round contest, the former Kalinabiri Boxing Club and UPDF knockout specialist had sealed the victory.

A devastating right overhand hook left Toward wobbling on the canvas, prompting referee Bernard Oyet to step in and save the British fighter from further damage.

The win marks a significant milestone for Kakande, who recently signed with London-based promotion company Peacock Boxing. He is now eligible to compete for the British Commonwealth Super Welterweight title.

“I give all glory to Almighty Allah. What a way to celebrate Ramadan with such a sweet victory,” an elated Kakande said after the fight. “With Toward defeated, my focus is now on winning the Commonwealth title before targeting other belts like the WBC, WBA, and IBF continental and world titles.”

Leon Sudbury, Kakande’s London-based manager, expressed confidence in his boxer’s potential. “Kakande is fearless and incredibly hardworking. These qualities make him a formidable fighter. He has everything it takes to reach the top,” Sudbury remarked.

Kakande’s trainer, Latif Walugembe ‘Coach Walu,’ a former UPDF and national boxing team coach now based in Germany, credited the victory to their disciplined execution of the game plan.

This was Kakande’s 11th professional fight since turning pro in 2021. Of these, the 2017 Brazzaville Africa welterweight gold medalist has won nine, with six knockouts, while suffering one loss and one draw.
