Charles Ayeikoh began life as Uganda Crested Cranes interim head coach on a good note after his side beat Cameroon 2-0 at the FUFA Technical Centre Njeru on Thursday in the first-leg meeting of the Women's Olympics Football Qualifiers 2024.

Kampala Queens' Catherine Nagadya and Fazila Ikwaput scored a goal each in the first and second half respectively to sink Cameroon.

Uganda survived conceding an equaliser in the 30th minute after Cameroon's Ajara Njoya missed from the spot.

The Cameroonian forward flashed the ball on the left post and goalkeeper Vanessa Karungi was quick to pick up the rebound.

Uganda dominated this game where they enjoyed a bigger ball possession compared to their visitors.

Ayeikoh was delighted with the mentality of his players at full-time but warned that this tie is far from over and demanded more of the same in the return leg due next week on Tuesday in Douala.

"I am very excited to win my first game in charge of the Crested Cranes. I enjoyed the mentality of the players, this is because it is always not easy to adapt to a new system but in the few weeks we have been together. They have responded well." Ayeikoh said.

Ayeikoh will hope that midfielder Phiona Nabbumba recovers in time for the Douala trip after she was stretched off injured in the 50th minute.
