Rally fans in Mbarara City on Friday morning thronged Bam petrol station along Masaka road to have a glance at the new machines that will compete in this weekend’s Mbarara rally.
And what was a scrutineering moment, turned out to be a show of might as the fans closed out Ronald Ssebuguzi’s Ford Fiesta and Yasin Nasser’s Ford Fiesta Nemo R5, some taking selfies and others glancing inside the cars.
“I have not seen these cars before and I take this chance also to have a look at them. I only read about them but have never come close to one. I am seeing this event becoming differently competitive than before,” said James Kakuru, a resident of Koranorya, Mbarara.
All 37 crews had their cars examined ahead of Saturday’s action, where they will cover two sections of Mwesigwa Resort, the longest running from Mwesigwa resort to Biharwe for 44.46km and the Bam Petroleum section from Biharwe to Kakoba for 15.5km before the 4.12km special sprint stage at Booma grounds.
Sunday will have competition in 4 sections of the Ex-Effect section running from Ibanda road to Biharwe for 25.78km, repeat the Bam petrol section, do the Bishop Jungu Kainobwisho section of 9.31km, the Bright Rwamirama section from Kaberebere to Kakoba for 19.3km for a total competitive distance 134km and liaison 78.5k.
