On Saturday, the Toyota Buffaloes host Leonard Lubambula’s Walukuba Barbarians at Kyadondo Rugby Club.
Both sides are eager to elevate their performances. The Buffaloes secured their first win of the season with a 26-13 victory over the Mongers and will be looking to build on that momentum with a second straight win.
On the other hand, the Barbarians, who started their season with tough losses against Pirates and Heathens, are still searching for their first victory.
To secure that elusive win, they will need a standout performance to show they are up for the challenge posed by the Buffaloes.
“For this league format, it is crucial to treat every game like a final. We will not have another chance to face Walukuba for a while, so we must capitalise on their weaknesses. I believe their set pieces will be one area we can target. They have a young squad, so our defence will need to be up to the task,” said Buffaloes coach Charles Onen.
Walukuba may still be winless this season, but they face a Buffaloes team that is eager to continue building on its progress. One area Buffaloes have struggled with is the lineout, but Onen is optimistic about the improvements.
“Our lineout has improved significantly, especially since the Mongers game, where we won at least 90 per cent of our throws. To finish in the medal bracket, we need to maintain consistency, but with our squad depth, I am confident we can achieve that,” Onen concluded.
KOBs will host the Eagles at Legends while the Rhinos travel to Entebbe for a date with the Mongers. The Hippos will host the Mongers in Jinja.
