The school teams that will take part in this year’s edition of the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Ankole Zone Ball Games II, arrived in the hosting Bushenyi district on Monday ahead of the games that commence on Tuesday.
The Schools from the 13 districts that make the zone according to the USSSA zonal mapping, comprised of girl and boy athletes that will compete in the disciplines of netball, volleyball, handball, rugby 7s, dance sport, football U14 and U16, and beach volleyball.
On arrival, the athletes were taken into strict screening to avoid some teams fielding ineligible players per the USSSA rules.
Zonal chairman Egidio Mucunguzi believes this will be a successful event because the preparations were in place before the athletes arrived.
“We have received the athletes from all the districts coming to take part and the turn-up is so good and we hope that we shall have the best of the events organized because hosts Bushenyi prepared well enough in time,” Mucunguzi said.
The event which has attracted more than 100 teams from about 60 schools in the zone, will officially commence on Tuesday and will be climaxing on Saturday with finals in different disciplines and an official closing ceremony.
The best teams in all the disciplines will qualify to represent Uganda at the national USSSA ball games II set for Kabale between July 9-17.
