The national men’s netball team ‘The Rock’ has defeated the She Cranes 64-51 and 74-63 in the first two friendly games played on Monday at the MTN Arena Lugogo.
The She Cranes head coach Fred Mugerwa Tabale, divided the 19 players currently in residential camp into two teams, with the first one having Sarah Nakiyunga, Shadia Nassanga Sseggujja, Viola Asingo, Asiinah Kabendela, Stella Nafuka, Lilian Achola, Christine Nakitto, Hannisha Muhammed Nakate, and Annet Najjuka.
And the second squad had Shaffie Nalwanja, Faridah Kadondi, Margaret Baagala, Norah Lunkuse, Christine Kango Namulumba, Privas Kayeny, Mercy Batamuliza, Shakira Nassaka, Joyce Nakibuule, and captain Irene Eyaru.
Team One lost all four quarters well as the second and team two lost the first three quarters and won the last one (20-16, 19-15, 21-16, 14-16).
After the two friendly games, Mugerwa was so impressed by the physique and the performance of the girls despite the results and he claimed to have gotten a clear picture of the players in the camp and disclosed that by the end of this week, he will be able to come up with the first team.
She Cranes is preparing for the World Netball Championship that will take place in Cape Town, South Africa starting July 28 to August 6, at the International Convention Centre.
Mugerwa refuted the claims that She Cranes is likely to hold a friendly with the Canadian national team. He said the team will have another friendly with the local men’s select team probably next week and the final contingent is likely to depart for South Africa in two weeks.
