SA 65 Uganda 50
Uganda's desire to return to the top of African netball will take a bit longer after they lost the final to holders South Africa 65-50 in Swakopmund, Namibia, on Saturday.
Uganda's slow start was evident in the first quarter, as South Africa capitalized on turnovers to take a slight 16-12 lead. The situation worsened for the She Cranes as the match slipped out of their hands, with halftime scores at 30-24.
South Africa demonstrated why the third quarter is often called the championship quarter by extending their lead to 50-33. The She Cranes struggled to find relief as the game continued to slip away.
Coach Nelson Bogere tried to switch up his defense by replacing Falida Kadindi with Haniisha Muhameed, but South Africa proved to be much stronger. They delivered a performance befitting champions.
Uganda managed to limit the damage in the fourth quarter, but by then, South Africa was simply managing the situation. Despite the loss, there is hope for the She Cranes, who have not played regular netball domestically for more than half a year. With an important series expected to take place in the UK next month, a lot could change for them.
