Days after clinching the World Boxing Council (WBC-Silver) featherweight title, Uganda’s Sulaiman Segawa has made it clear, that he has unfinished business with the world’s top guns.

His announcement comes a few days after winning the WBC-Silver featherweight title on July 13, 2024.

The former Kampala Boxing Club (KBC) sensation was impressive, defeating top contender, American Ruben Villa by unanimous decision.

Segawa, a resident of Silver Springs, Maryland, USA, says defending his WBC-Silver world title ranks top of his priorities before he switches his focus to world top-ranked featherweights.

“Discussions for my next move have been drawn. My management team and promoters have already laid plans that include defending my world title and later on to my next opponents. Segawa told Vision Sport via a WhatsApp conversation.

“To be realistic, I have unfinished business to prove to the world that I deserve to be on top of the global boxing charts. With this in my sight, I have no option but to defeat the best.”

Segawa will have to defend his title within six months and probably in December this year par the laws governing World boxing sanctioning bodies.

His WBC-silver title with a 17-4-1 ring record means Segawa is currently in the same pool of the world’s Cream de ’ la Cream top five ranked featherweights holding prestigious titles.

And if he is to ascend to the world boxing summit, the former national boxing team ‘The Bombers’ pugilist will have to take on the Mexican trio of Rey Vargas, Rafael ‘El Divino’ Espinoza, and Luis Alberto Lopez not forgetting Italy’s Luca Rigoldi.

Vargas, who is ranked first in the division, defended his WBC (gold) featherweight title in Riyad, Saudi Arabia on March 8, 2024.

Espinoza holds the World Boxing Organization (WBO) featherweight title, Lopez bosses with the International Boxing Federation (IBF) title as Rigoldi trails the four with his WBC-Intercontinental title.

Segawa now awaits a pending consensus between his management team, Urban Boxing, and promotions giants, Top Rank for his title defence and next opponents.

The two joint forces were behind organising Segawa’s recent win against Ruben Villa.
