Tawfik Bagalana broke the hearts of visiting Entebbe Mongers' fans when he struck home the winning try as Jinja Hippos defeated stubborn Entebbe Mongers 20-10 in Saturday's Nile special Rugby Premier League at Dam Waters.

Hippos took a three minutes lead with a well-struck penalty from Maxwell Ebong.

The visitors could have leveled the score from 25 yards but captain Paul in Angana failed to hit his effort on target.

However, Hippos stretched their lead to a 06-00 lead with another of Ebong's long-range penalties.

The visitors then were guilty of three next penalties from their captain Angana, and this gave Hippos the opportunity for a much-needed breather from opponents who kept pressing them in their half.

Elsewhere, Walukuba Barbarians thumped this season's early league pacesetters Makerere Impis 37-07 to record their biggest win of the season.

The result pushed the Jinja side into eighth with 18 points, two below seventh-placed Mongers as the two fight to avoid relegation.

Kobs (60 points)meanwhile closed the gap on leaders Heathens to two points after thumping bottom-placed Rams 55-33 at Legends playground.

Despite winning, leaders Heathens failed to get a bonus point in their tight 20-19 win over fifth-placed Toyota Buffaloes.

Third-placed Stanbic Black Pirates (who are now level with 60 points ) thrashed Rhinos 45-00 to record the biggest win of the weekend.

The result helped them continue to push the top two for the title.
