The third edition of the Discovery Uganda Run is set to take place on Saturday, January 18, in the hilly city of Kapchorwa, promising an exciting day of competition for over 600 athletes.

This year’s event boasts a total prize pool of 25 million Uganda shillings, a significant incentive that has generated considerable excitement among participants. Beyond the financial rewards, the race serves as a crucial preparation platform for athletes training for the national cross-country championships, scheduled for February 18 in Tororo District.

“The race is a great opportunity for many of us,” said one participant. “Apart from the financial gains, we’re using it as a stepping stone to prepare for the competitive national calendar this year.”

Organised by celebrated long-distance runner Jacob Kiplimo, the event will feature a 10km race for senior athletes and an 8km race for juniors. These categories aim to test endurance and skill while providing a platform for emerging talent to showcase their abilities.

Last year’s senior race saw Dismas Yeko clinch victory in the men’s category, while Kenya’s Dorren Kibet took the women’s title. In the junior races, Hosea Chemutai and Nancy Chepkwavui triumphed in the men’s and women’s categories, respectively.
