Thirteen Schools Bid to Host 2025 USSSA Games Amid Overwhelming Interest

Thirteen secondary schools have registered their interest in hosting the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Associations (USSSA) games in 2025.

The association was overwhelmed by the schools’ interest in hosting the different sets of competitions after opening the bidding period.

The early call for bids aims to confirm the hosts and help the Physical Education and Sports (PES) department of the Ministry of Education and Sports draft the 2025 schools sports calendar in time.

The USSSA competitions include the USSSA elite games that usually open the calendar year, boys’ football, ball games I (girls’ football, hockey, basketball, racket games, and rugby 15s), ball games II (netball, volleyball, handball, rugby 7s, and athletics), swimming, and ball games III, which was introduced this year for the non-FEASSA qualifying disciplines.

The released applications, however, do not include Amus College School, which co-hosted the 2024 FEASSA games with the main host, Bukedea Comprehensive School. However, the latter has applied for two events.

From the bids released, Bukedea Comprehensive School has applied to host both ball games I and the USSSA swimming gala, boasting newly established sports facilities.

Other schools include Jinja SS, which has requested to co-host ball games II with Jinja Progressive, Jinja College, and PMM Girls, and also ball games I alongside Jinja College.

St. Mary’s College Rushoroza in Kabale is bidding to host national boys’ football and elite games, while Ngora High School in Teso is in the running to host boys’ football.

USSSA will send inspection teams to these schools to ascertain their readiness in terms of playing and accommodation facilities before announcing the successful hosts.
