NIC Netball Club team manager, Jocelyn Ucanda, exudes confidence in NIC's ability to defend their East Africa title, secured last year, as they gear up for the East Africa Netball Club Championship that starts Sunday.
Ucanda attributes this confidence to the rigorous training the team has undergone in preparation for the tournament.
"Even in the absence of the league, my team remained dedicated to training without a break. The girls are in peak condition and in excellent health. However, we are missing two players who were disheartened by the league's absence. Despite our efforts to reach out to them, they cited personal challenges," Ucanda explained.
Nevertheless, despite NIC's thorough preparation, Ucanda maintains a respectful outlook towards the competition, acknowledging the potential of other clubs from Uganda and neighboring countries who have likely also undergone intensive preparation.
NIC's primary rival remains Prisons, eager to avenge their defeat in last year's final in Nairobi, Kenya, where NIC emerged victorious with a score of 49:37.
The East Africa Netball Championships, slated to commence on the 12th and conclude on the 21st of May in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, promise fierce competition. NIC aims for their 22nd victory, while Prisons aims for their fourth title.
At the East Africa Netball Championships, Uganda is represented by four clubs: NIC and Prisons in the female category, while Kampala University and WOB compete in the male category.
