Winning is a habit Uganda A are becoming guilty of.
Five games into the RCG Invitational, Davis Turinawe’s side are 5-0. It is a valuable return because winning is the currency of sport, no matter the opposition.
For Cricket Cranes head coach Abhay Sharma, it is important to have a competitive A side, one with players keen to earn a call-up to the senior side. For Uganda A players, a winning culture is just as vital, as it breeds confidence and a level of expectation necessary to motivate performance.
And, obviously, winning is good for the brand of Ugandan cricket.
Sure, Zimbabwe E and Rwanda XI may not offer the sternest tests, but in the cycle of cricket development, the RCG Invitation is exactly the sort of tournament associate countries need a regular diet of.
Young talents can take their first steps in international cricket at such tournaments, while others around national setups who may be struggling for form can revive their fortunes. And, yes, the right habits and cultures can be formed.
“We will continue playing the same brand of cricket we have been playing,” said Turinawe after the victory for Rwanda XI on Monday.
“I want guys to enjoy themselves and they have shown that they can enjoy themselves and perform. So we want to keep that kind of momentum – the players enjoying themselves and at the same time trying to express themselves positively.”
