Rwanda 56/10 19.4 overs
Uganda won by 46 runs
Uganda’s Baby Victoria Pearls emerged from the group stage unscathed, defeating hosts Rwanda by 46 runs to top Group A and secure a date with Zimbabwe in the ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup Qualifiers.
Rwanda won the toss and sent Uganda out to bat at the IPRC in Kigali on Wednesday afternoon. Coach Yusuf Nanga’s players were undeterred by the early loss of captain and opening batter Jimia Muhammad’s wicket as they took care of business.
Malisa Ariokot led the charge with 33 runs off 24 balls, supported by Patricia Timong (14), Asumin Akurut (15), and Jane Amongin (15), as Uganda posted a total of 102 runs in 19.3 overs.
“It was not that exciting with the bat because most of our batters lost a couple of wickets. However, we bounced back in the middle and managed to get those runs, which is why we were able to defend our total,” said assistant captain Ivan Kakande.
This performance sets Uganda on a collision course with Zimbabwe in the semi-finals scheduled for Saturday. For now, Uganda will have two days off to regroup and refocus.
