Uganda and Tanzania have qualified for the CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals after dominant semifinal victories in the CECAFA Qualifiers on Tuesday at Hamz Stadium.
The Uganda Cubs overcame their recent heartbreak from the previous edition, where they were eliminated by Somalia, with a 4-1 victory against the same opponents. From the opening minute, Uganda displayed remarkable determination and resilience, seeking redemption and securing their spot in the finals.
Tanzania, on the other hand, showcased their attacking prowess, defeating South Sudan 4-0 in a commanding performance.
The two finalists will now battle for the CECAFA title while preparing for the main tournament, the CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations finals next year in Ivory Coast.
Midfielder Abubakari Walusimbi opened the scoring with a close-range tap-in during the first half, while James Bogere scored three times in the second half, marking his sixth goal of the tournament. Somalia's Ibrahim Osman managed a consolation goal, but Uganda held firm to advance.
In the other semifinal, Tanzania dominated South Sudan with a 4-0 win. Goals from Hussein Mbegu, Zamu Ng’habi, Abel Samson, and substitute Juma Abushiri underscored their commanding performance.
The stage is now set for Uganda and Tanzania to face off in the final on Friday at Hamz Stadium. The qualifiers have showcased exceptional talent and determination, providing a promising glimpse of future football stars.
