Uganda's national U-15 team departed today for the 2025 International Schools Sports Federation (ISF) World Championship in Serbia following an official flag-off ceremony at Lugogo's NCS Cooper Complex.
Commissioner for Teacher Education Standards Cleophus Mugenyi, representing State Minister for Sports Peter Ogwang, presented the national flag to team captain Malcom Ssentongo and assistant captain Tracy Nabunnya.
The 31-member contingent will compete in table tennis, badminton, swimming, and athletics during the April 4-14 championship. Athletes for racket sports and swimming were selected from Kibuli Secondary School and Seroma Christian High School, while track and field representatives come from various schools nationwide.
Ssentongo pledged unified team effort, stating: "We will support each other to achieve victory." Mugenyi commended the athletes' qualifying journey, emphasizing: "Your dedication brought you here. Maintain that focus in Serbia – believe in yourselves and make Uganda proud."
Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) chairman Justus Mugisha acknowledged Seroma and Kibuli schools for cost-sharing despite government support, and praised the Association of Secondary Schools Headteachers Union (ASSHU) for coordinating preparations. "Uganda's consistent ISF participation reflects our strong school sports programs," Mugisha noted, referencing the nation's growing international presence.
The delegation includes 16 officials led by Commissioner for Physical Education Samy Odong, with ASSHU General Secretary Hajat Zulaika Nabukeera overseeing safety and Seroma director Amelia Kyambadde serving as team manager. USSSA CEO Chris Mugisa and chairman Mugisha will attend ISF governance meetings during the championship.
Uganda's participation continues its tradition of showcasing young athletic talent on the global stage, with the team aiming to build on past international achievements.
