Uganda U-15 girls football coach Jimmy Kintu says his team is ready to fight after being placed in a tough group at the 2025 CAF Africa Schools Football Championship.
Uganda is in Group B with defending champions South Africa, The Gambia, and DR Congo. “Yes, we have been drawn in a tough group, but again this is the level. We have to come here and be tough and compete,” said coach Kintu.
Uganda, champions of the CECAFA region, is already in Accra preparing for the tournament. The games will run from April 23 to April 26 at the University of Ghana.
“We have had our third recovery training session, the girls’ bodies are responding well,” he said. The team has been training in hot weather, which Kintu says is both a challenge and a chance to adapt. “We are training under the hot sun, which is a two-sided effect. We have to get used to it because we are to play under the same environment,” he added.
Despite the difficult draw, the coach remains hopeful. “It’s going to be very difficult, but I hope the girls respond to every situation,” he said. The official draw took place on Monday, April 21, at the MultiChoice Ghana offices. African football legends Asamoah Gyan and Clementine Toure led the draw, with Adjoa Bayor and Amanda Dlamini also present.
In the girls’ tournament, Group A has Ghana, Morocco, Benin, and Malawi, while Group B includes South Africa, Uganda, DR Congo, and The Gambia. Uganda will also compete in the boys’ category, with St Mary’s Kitende in Group A alongside Ghana, South Africa, and Algeria. CECAFA defending champions Tanzania are in Group B with Senegal, DR Congo, and Côte d’Ivoire.
This is the third edition of the CAF African Schools Football Championship, supported by the Motsepe Foundation. The first two editions were held in South Africa (2023) and Zanzibar (2024).
