Ugandan rally drivers want to win the Rwanda Mountain Gorilla Rally which is the fifth leg of the seven Africa Rally Championship rounds that start on Saturday, September 24, and end Sunday 25 in Rwanda.

Three-time National Rally Champion Jas Mangat, 2021 ARC2 winner Yasin Nasser, Duncan ‘Kikankane’ Mubiru, Jonas Kansiime, Samuel Bwete, and Fred Kitaka Busulwa are the drivers representing Uganda.

They will face stiff opposition from ARC leader, Leroy Gomesi of Zambia (102points), Karan Patel (75) of Kenya, and Giancarlo Davite (38points) also targeting victory.

Mangat navigated by Joseph Kamya in a Mitsubishi Evo 10, Mubiru navigated by Musa Nsubuga in a Ford Fiesta and Nasser navigated by Ali Katumba in Subaru Impreza are all eyeing victory and that makes this event one to watch.

Mangat returns to Rwanda after nine years in an event he dropped out while in the lead in 2013 but that is the driving force because the crew eyes a finish.

“It is a tough event, but we are looking at a good performance and picking up maximum points from Rwanda,” Kamya said.

Mangat is seventh on the ARC log with 30 points he scored after winning the Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally in May.

In Tanzania, he dropped out due to turbo failure.

Another Uganda racer Yasin Nasser sixth on the ARC log with 34 points is also targeting a win, while Kikankane also eyes his first ARC win in a foreign land.

Fourteen Crews including Mangat, Nasser, Kaka Mahender Singh Jr (Uganda), Paras Pandya, Rio Smith, Maxime Wahome, Jasmeet Chana, Kimathi Mcrae, Hamza Anwar, Patel (Kenya), Davite (Rwanda) are ARC contestants.
