Ugandan motocross rider Stav Orland has etched his name in the record books as the first from his country to compete in the prestigious American Motocross Championship's Supercross event.

The 20-year-old made his professional debut in the fiercely competitive 250SX West category at the Seattle Supercross, delivering a performance that defied his rookie status.

A Remarkable Debut Against Elite Competition
Facing a field of 70 world-class riders, Orland proved his mettle despite turning professional just five months prior. The qualifying rounds saw him finish 8th in Group C, securing his place among the top 40 riders who advanced to the heats.

In Heat 2, Orland narrowly missed automatic qualification to the final, finishing 10th—just one position shy of the top 9 cutoff. Undeterred, he battled through the high-pressure Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ), where only the top four riders would progress. Against seasoned competitors like Jordan Smith, Orland clinched 3rd place, earning his spot in the 22-rider main event.

Making Ugandan and African History
Orland's participation in the Supercross main event marked a watershed moment for Ugandan motorsport. Finishing 18th in his debut, he became only the sixth African rider ever to compete in the AMA Supercross Championship—joining an elite group previously comprised solely of South Africans.

A Journey Fueled by Family and Determination
His mother, Evas Orland, reflected on his rapid ascent: "Five months ago he turned professional. Who starts a sport and qualifies for the Supercross main event in that time?" She highlighted the family's pivotal role in supporting his dream without major sponsorships, calling his progress "more than just progress—it's a blessing."

National Pride and Future Potential
Arthur Blick, Vice President of Uganda's motorsport federation and former rider, hailed Orland as "the best rider Uganda has ever produced." He emphasized the extraordinary dedication required to compete at this level, noting: "Motocross demands everything—time, finances, and an unbreakable spirit. Stav has shown he possesses it all."

Orland's groundbreaking achievement serves as inspiration for African motorsport, proving that with determination, even the most ambitious dreams are within reach. As he continues his rookie season, the Ugandan trailblazer has already redefined what's possible for African riders in global motocross.
